The short version

The names, dates and questions you type into a reading never leave your browser. The shuffle runs on your device; there is no server call involved in a draw, so there is nothing for us to store even if we wanted to.

There is no analytics on this site. No Google Analytics, no advertising pixels, no tracking scripts of any kind.

What the server records

Like any web server, ours writes an access log: the IP address the request came from, the time, the address requested, the referring page and the browser's user-agent string. These logs exist to keep the site running and to investigate abuse. They are not used to build a profile of you and they are not sold or shared.

Logs are kept for a short period and then rotated out.

Cookies and local storage

The site's own templates set no cookies at all. Two things do set them: the engine the site runs on, which issues a session cookie so that forms and logins work, and Cloudflare, which sets security cookies to tell visitors apart from automated traffic.

Two small values are kept in your browser's own storage rather than in cookies: one remembers that you dismissed the cookie notice, the other that you closed the bar at the bottom of the screen. Both stay on your device and are never sent anywhere. Clearing your browser data removes them.

Third parties that see your requests

Cloudflare sits in front of this site and therefore sees every request, including your IP address. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means Google receives your IP address when a page loads. If you follow a link to the App Store or Google Play, Apple or Google take over from there under their own policies.

That is the complete list.

If you write to us or create an account

The contact form asks for an email address and a message, and both are stored so that we can reply. An account is not needed to use anything on this site; if you create one to comment, we store the username, the email address and a hashed password.

You can ask us to delete any of this through the contact form.

If anything here is unclear or looks wrong, write to us through the contact form and we will fix the text or the behaviour, whichever is at fault.

We use cookies to run the site and understand how it is used. See our privacy policy.
